The Spin welcomes back one of the most celebrated saxophonists in the UK: Dave O’Higgins. Dave has long been a favourite at The Spin, due to his utterly fluid, inventive and captivating playing. 

The Spin welcomes back the much-loved, brilliant saxophonist, Art Themen!

Themen is still absolutely at the top of his game having had a full-on career, much of it spent with Britain’s national treasure pianist, Stan Tracey. With Tracey, Themen toured all over the world and recorded on arguably the U.K.’s most cherished jazz album, ‘Under Milk Wood’.

We bring you an outfit that The Guardian described as a “UK-based group presenting vibrant European Contemporary Jazz, played by a quartet of superb musicians…”

The leader and composer is tenor and soprano saxophonist Jon Lloyd, turning his attention now to European contemporary jazz using classical and non-western music influences (as well as jazz sources) to write vibrant, melodic and emotionally direct new jazz compositions.

We present a quintet led by the brilliant bassist, Dave Jones. Beyond being a great bass player, Dave is a seriously-respected all round musician whose work encompasses band-leading, composing and high-level education. London Jazz News has written:

“Dave’s writing is sophisticated and nuanced. Just when you think you know where he’s going, there is a change of texture or tempo, you do find yourself in an unexpected place and…it’s beautiful!!”

We bring to you for the first time, a great new outfit based in Scotland: Monsterosa. The lineup features 5 players – that all have diverse careers in the jazz world – that have come together to create this quirky, original music which the London Jazz News described thus:

The award-winning and eclectic quintet ARQ – led by bassist and composer Alison Rayner – is a widely celebrated ensemble with over twelve years of UK and European touring experience across a complete range of jazz clubs, concert halls and international festivals.

The Misha Mullov-Abbado Group is made up of some of the finest, multi-award-winning musicians in London, and under Misha’s direction the group performs his original compositions and arrangements with a broad variety of influences.

Described by Pat Metheny as “one of the best guitarists in the world”, John continues to thrill audiences across the world – as he has been over the decades, performing with such luminaries as Stephane Grapelli, Nigel Kennedy, Andy Summers (of The Police), John Williams, Soft Machine….and indeed, Pat Metheny!
