Adam Waldmann

One of my favourite discoveries of 2009

Mike Flynn, Jazzwise

Formed in the spring of 2008, Kairos 4tet were put together by one of the most creative of the new generation of jazz players in the UK, Adam Waldmann.  The band features some of the finest young talents in European jazz and have already received critical acclaim for their first album, ‘Kairos Moment’ which was released in April 2009.

Adam Waldmann, the main composer and saxophonist of the group, graduated from Trinity College of Music in 2006 and was awarded the ‘Outstanding Student’ prize; no surprises therefore that he has gone on to work with Seb Rochford’s Polar Bear, Gwilym Simcock, Clark Tracey and many others.  Recent highlights for Adam include his performing at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the Southbank but you will have heard him doing his thing at the Vortex, Charlie Wrights and other hip venues in London.

Playing with Adam are Jasper Hoiby on bass; Jasper came to the UK in 2000 and has confirmed himself as one of the top bassists in the UK. Rob Barron is a consummate pianist; in jazz, he has worked with the likes of Bob Mintzer, Benny Golson and Tim Garland but also gets funky (he is MD for Marisa Turner of Prince fame).  Jon Scott on drums is already known on the festival circuit; he has played at Copenhagen, London and Manchester jazz festivals and is currently playing with Candid recording artist, Mishka Adams.
