Harry Beckett |
Resident in the UK since 1954, Harry Beckett's reputation as one of the great trumpeters of the last 40 years extends throughout Europe and the USA. One of only a handful of British players to work with Charles Mingus, Harry’s work with the legendary American bassist is captured in the film, ‘All Night Long’. Since that time, he has been a key figure on the British jazz/improvised music scene and the bands in which Harry has worked are amongst the most influential in UK jazz - Ian Carr’s Nucleus, Brotherhood of Breath, Wikipedia: website, London Jazz Composers’ Orchestra, Wikipedia: website, John Surman, Wikipedia: website Octet, Stan Tracey, Wikipedia: website his Big Band and Octet and of course Harry was the elder statesman in the groundbreaking big band, The Jazz Warriors in the mid 80s.
We are delighted to welcome two other great improvisers who will share the stage with Harry. On saxes, Chris Biscoe is regarded as one of the great voices in European jazz. Chris was the first British musician to play with the celebrated French big band, the Orchestre National de Jazz; he has worked regularly with the Mike Westbrook Orchestra, the New York Composer’s Orchestra, and has been featured soloist with some of the great bands of contemporary music ie Hermeto Pascoal, Dewey Redman and so on. Pat Thomas, on piano, is well known to Spin audiences for his annual visit with Orphy Robinson. Pat has played with everyone from Tony Oxley, to ex Mothers of Invention percussionist, Jimmy Carl Black – a superb pianist, he is particularly well regarded for his interpretations of the Thelonious Monk’s repertoire.
Appearing with Harry, Chris and Pat will be the Spin rhythm section of Mark Doffman and Raf Mizraki. A great night of jazz beckons.
