Carl Orr

A classy guitarist, Carl Orr has more than enough timing, tone and chops to have got the call from fusion god Billy Cobham …

Tom Barlow, Jazzwise Magazine

Moving to London from  Australia in 1995, Carl quickly became known on the jazz scene for his wonderful guitar playing. This led to his working with the legendary drummer, Billy Cobham, for about 4 years during which time he played on two of Billy’s albums and  in that context he performed with Randy Brecker, Ernie Watts, Gary Husband and George Duke.  In the last 15 years, he has also been featured on albums by international stars such as Candy Dulfer and Steve Hunter.  If you are into Steely Dan, you may have heard ‘Maestros of Cool’, rather more than a tribute album and one which included many of the sidemen who worked with Becker and Fagen – Carl is a featured soloist on this great CD.  In the last couple of years, Carl has been working with the excellent bassist Dudley Phillips and singer Juliet Kelly.

Carl also leads his own groups and has now released seven albums under his own name. JazzUk magazine described Carl as a ‘jazz-rock genius’. Find out for yourselves.
